Family events at Coleraine Twelfth Festival

COLERAINE'S Twelfth Festival kicked off at the weekend.

Now in its fifth year, the festival will see thousands of visitors descend on the borough for what promises to be another packed programme.

The hugely popular exhibition featuring items dating back as far as the 19th century relating to local lodges and bands and will be open in Coleraine Town Hall all week.

The exhibition also includes many old items including photographs, items connected with the military service of Orangemen and their families.

The River Bann has played a significant role in the development of the town, and skipper Robert Anderson will share his knowledge of the river during trips on the Lady Sandel.

There will be four trips this year, as demand in previous years has been high. Trips will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening and will depart from the Christie Park jetty at 7pm. Booking is essential.

An Ulster Scots Concert will be held in Portstewart Town Hall at 8pm on Thursday and Coleraine Town Centre will host a variety of events throughout the festival including historical re-enactments at 1pm on Thursday and Friday.

A family event full of fun will be held in Christie Park on Friday night from 7pm. With face painters and plenty of entertainment for the kids, the event will end with a fireworks display over the River Bann.

'The Hounds of Ulster' will entertain in Coleraine Town Centre on Saturday, July 10. The Whiteabbey group will bring their blend of Ulster Scots, Scottish and Irish traditional music to the local shoppers, for what promises to be a great musical experience.

There will also be entertainment at the amphitheatre in Portrush at 1pm on Saturday.
