Family fun day at Hillstown Farm Shop

HILLSTOWN Farm Shop will be celebrating its fifth anniversary with a very special and unique event this Saturday, August 4.

The Glebe Road farmshop will be opening its doors for a family fun day and this year will have specialist cookery demonstrations by Hillstown’s very own chef.

This year Hillstown’s wee jockies have been training hard for the Piggy Derby which is going to be loads of fun with big prizes to be won.

The grand winning prize will be a choice between a Delux BBQ or a £150 Farm shop voucher.

Why not look out your old wellies and bring them along for the welly throwing contest to win the golden boot, open to all ages. Also for the first time ever in Northern Ireland Hillstown will be hosting the first ever Pavlova and Ice Cream eating contest, so watch out for some major brain freeze!

On the day the winner of the name the baby llama competition will be announced.

Other activities on the day include a bouncy castle and assault course, an all day barbecue and spit roast pig, with the chance to sample lots of the farmshop’s delicious goods.

As part of the day’s events, there will be a meet and greet with the some of the farm’s animals - meet the pigs and llamas, and have a go at feeding the chickens and ducks. Also come and say hi to Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum the farm’s friendly goats,

And as if that wasn’t enough, there will be some great fifth anniversary promotions.

Located just outside Ahoghill, near Whiteside’s Corner, the Logan family business puts their success down to quality produce - all lamb, pork and beef sold in the shop has been born and raised on the family’s adjoining farm.

The beef is dry aged on the bone for a minimum of 28 days, producing beef which is tender and tasting just as beef should.

Rare breed saddleback pigs provide the pork, with the breed renowned for producing pork which is succulent and tasty.

Free range Black Rock hens wander around the farm providing fresh free range eggs every day.

The farmshop also stocks a wide range of products including fruit, vegetables, milk, jams, tray bakes, and is now selling cooked free range chickens, homemade pies, desserts and sausage rolls.

And, as the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding with Hillstown Farmshop accredited with numerous awards including NI Gourmet Pork Sausage Champion three years running, Elite Butcher’s Cup for Outstanding Achievement, and a top 10 finish is the UK sausage finals.
