Family history society meeting

THE JANUARY meeting of the Ballymena Branch of the North of Ireland Family History Society takes place in the Braid on Thursday, January 26 at 7.15pm.

The subject of this month’s talk is the Registry of Deeds, which was set up in 1708 and continues in operation to the present day.

This 300 year old repository holds records for land transactions dating from its opening along with many other documents such as wills, deeds and mortgages.

These documents contain many names and relationships which are vital to genealogists and Family Historians making the registry an important resource for those involved in tracing their family history.

The talk, which will be given by Mr. Brian O’Hara, aims to provide an insight into researching in this much under used resource.
