Family of Donaghmore crash victim in Bulgaria ‘still don’t know where her body is’

The family of a Donaghmore woman who was killed in a hit and run road collision while on holiday in Bulgaria have said they are receiving no help in trying to locate her remains.

Relatives of Rosaleen Donaghy, told the Irish News they spent yesterday trying to contact elected representatives at home in a bid to get more information.

Mrs Donaghy was struck by a car in the holiday resort at the weekend, while her husband Brian was also hurt during the incident, although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Three of the couples children Danielle, Dermot and Dominic travelled out to Bulgaria to be with their father, while another daughter Ashlean was returning home from Australia.

A family spokesperson claimed yesterday to the Irish News that the British Foreign Office had given them ‘no help at all’.

“We are phoning MPs. We are contacting and contacting and contacting and contacting. They have still not been told of where Rosaleen is,” she said.

The woman said there were issues with the language barrier. The family are understood to have approached Sinn Fein MLA Barry McElduff who contacted Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness. His office is understood to have ‘made an intervention’ on their behalf.

Mrs Donaghy was a native of Galbally and had worked in the Lollipop Playgroup in Donaghmore for some years.

Sinn Fein Councillor Sean McGuigan paid tribute to the deceased. “Rosaleen was a good woman who spent most of her life looking after children.

“Her death and the injury to her husband has come as a real shock.

Fellow Councillor Michael Gillespie spoke of the sadness in Rosaleen’s homeland of Galbally.

“The entire community is in a state of shock. Rosaleen was very well respected and our sympathy goes out to the Gervin and Donaghy families at this very difficult time. It is a terrible tragedy.”
