Family say teenager is '˜making good progress' as he recovers from accident

The talented young GAA player suffered a serious head injury but is said to be ‘making great progress’ in hospital.

On Sunday, a photograph was posted to Facebook showing Odhrán giving a thumbs up from his hospital bed.

He was pictured with Donna Tohill, head of the senior school at St Mary’s Grammar in west Belfast where Odhrán is a pupil.

In one of the latest posts this week on the St John’s GAA site, the family stated, “Odhrán has just been moved from ICU to the neurological ward, has spoken to the family and has eaten for the first time.

“The speed of his progress has been unbelievable, as has your continued support. Keep praying the progress continues.”

In another post from the family it stated, “Great news this morning as Odhrán has woken from sedation and is being continuously assessed.

“Please keep your prayers coming for continued improvement to his condition and positive outcome.

“Thanks again to everybody for their ongoing support.”

The talented teenager, who has a twin brother CJ, plays both football and hurling for St John’s GAA West Belfast.

Odhrán himself also plays both football and hurling for St John’s.

He was involved in a one-vehicle collision last month in Crumlin.

Police said a car driven by Odhrán left the Killead Road and struck a tree.

One of his teachers Dr Aidan Donaldson was among those to comment on the Facebook photograph.

“Great to see that smile Odhran.

“God bless and get well soon. Doc,” he said.

The teenager has been involved in training squads for the Antrim minor football side this season and was named on the Antrim colleges hurling panel.

His twin brother CJ also thanked everyone for their continuous support.

“Couldn’t thank everyone enough but continue to keep Odhrán in your prayers and thoughts,” he posted.
