Family stunned by Jordan’s fans

Drumahoe teenager, Jordan O’Keefe has amassed an amazing army of fans around the world as he bids to win the Britain’s Got Talent final this weekend .

As he stunned judges on Saturday night with his brave rendition of the Whitney Houston classic, ‘I Will Always Love You’, he trended twice around the world on twitter.

His father, estate agent Paul O’Keefe, told the Sentinel that his business phone lines have been swamped by Jordan’s fans and well-wishers, and that huge bags of mail have begun arriving.

But Mr O’Keefe said he and his wife, Debbie, are confident Jordan is equipped to handle such fame, that has seen him contacted by fans from all around the world, including the US, Australia, Europe and the Phillipines, where a fan club has been started.

Mr O’Keefe admitted: “It’s gone mental. People are constantly ringing and sending letters - it’s gone to a different level now.

“This is all out of the blue. Saturday night was incredible, and we’re hoping all of Northern Ireland will get behind him now to give him a chance in the final.”

Speaking to us on Monday, Mr O’Keefe said he had expected Jordan to return home that day, but added: “I don’t think he’ll make it, he’s in such demand.”

Jordan gave a hint of what was to come when he said last week that he aimed to perform what was “normally a women’s song” in the semi-final.

Simon Cowell said at first that he thought it was “mad” but having heard Jordan’s version, he was really impressed.

Mr O’Keefe said he believes Jordan is well-equippned to deal with the sudden fame, as he is a very grounded young man.

“He has a great network of family and friends, and he’ll keep his feet on the ground. The first thing he did after getting through into the semi-final was to go to Oakgrove College and thank his music teacher. He’s determined but also very caring.”
