Barry and Seilin Cochrane along with family and friends organized a charity football event at Craigavon City’s Football Ground in the town raising over £3,000 for local charity, Children’s Heartbeat Trust.

Barrie spoke on his reason behind fundraising: “After losing three of our six children to an extremely rare and genetic heart condition, feeling helpless does not come close.

“The only way we felt we could do something positive was to fundraise and help other families in Northern Ireland facing a similar situation. So we decided to organise a charity football match for Children’s Heartbeat Trust.”

Sarah Quinlan, Chief Executive of Children’s Heartbeat Trust said: “We are extremely grateful to the Cochrane family and friends who have raised this incredible amount in memory of Aimee, Louis and Ruby. Their fundraising will help us continue to provide support for parents and families of children who have been diagnosed with heart disease in Northern Ireland.”

Sarah added, “Heart Disease is the most common birth defect in Northern Ireland with over 200 babies born here each year with the condition. Many of these children will require ongoing cardiac care and/or open heart surgery. The Cochrane generous donation will make a very real difference to the lives of these families and children.’’

The Children’s Heartbeat Trust is a small, local charity who work closely with Clark Clinic, the regional paediatric cardiac ward at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children to help fund medical equipment and resources, ensuring that children with heart disease in Northern Ireland receive the best care and treatment possible.
