Family’s anguish at inquest delay

THE family of Joby Murphy have said they are dismayed at the delay in holding the inquest into his death.

Six months after the 20-year-old Glengormley man’s body was recovered from the River Lagan a date has yet to be fixed for an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Joby’s father, Joe said: “It may not be something that people may think is needed, but it could answer some questions for us and determine exactly what happened.

“It would at least be something just to know when it will happen.”

A spokesman for the Courts Service said: “The Coroners Office have advised that they are currently preparing the inquest papers and will notify the family of a date for hearing in due course.”

When asked if he could provide an explanation for the delay and when the inquest was likely to be held, he added: “The Coroner’s investigation has been on-going since the death was reported in February 2012.

“The Coroners Service hope to be in contact with the family this week regarding listing the inquest.”
