Famous names support Harry’s Foundation

Famous names from the world of sport and entertainment have thrown their weight behind the Harry Gregg Foundation.

The foundation, which was launched in February, reaches out to all sections of the community, promoting positive lifestyle changes, and providing opportunities for those involved to fulfil their dreams.

This week, one of Northern Ireland’s most famous voices, Colin Murray backed the local Foundation, as he accepted an Ambassador role.

Other famous names include Manchester United fanatic, Eammon Holmes, journalist Stephen Watson, former Northern Ireland captain Steven Lomas, Liam Beckett and Alan Simpson.

The Foundation is delighted to have their backing.

Talk Sport presenter, Colin Murray is delighted to be involved, he said: “Anything that encourages kids to get outside and get healthier is a good thing, and Harry’s foundation aims to do just that, so I’m very happy to be asked to be part of it,” he said.

Journalist Stephen Watson, who was present at the launch night back in February, said it was a ‘privilege’ to be asked to be involved.

“Harry’s desire is to give aspiring young footballers the same opportunity he was afforded. To assist him in the promotion of his Foundation and to make sure his legacy is fulfilled is an absolute honour for me.”

Steven Lomas, who is a proud Coleraine man, just like Harry also spoke of his pride at taking up the role in the Foundation.

“It’s with great pride as Coleraine lad and respect for Harry that I accept this role, to be asked to be an ambassador for the Harry Gregg Foundation is a great honour. I was very fortunate when I was younger that a lot of people around the Coleraine area gave up their free time to help young people like myself enjoy football and develop. It’s great that the foundation is following in that tradition and I’m sure with Harry’s passion it will be a great success.”

Local football fan, Alan Simpson said Harry is the personification of a true sportsman.

“I am humbled and proud to be involved , even though I was the personification of a ‘dodgy keeper’.”

Harry’s close friend, Liam Beckett said he had ‘no hesitation’ in accepting the role.

“Growing up as a kid in Ballymoney I was always football mad and the one person who I always looked up and aspired to was Harry Gregg.”
