Fantastic plastic for Ballycastle High

SCIENCE is not just about text books and Bunsen burners! It is not just about test tubes and white coats! It is a chance to understand and explore the changes that new discoveries are making in our lives.

Ballycastle High School has played host to a morning of Science, Technology and ICT for Primary 6 pupils from our local schools.

Pupils from Armoy, Ballycastle Controlled Integrated, Bushvalley, Dunseverick, Knockahollet and Straidbilly Primary Schools, participated in an experience of science called 'Fantastic Plastic'.

In the plastics industry, it is important to use the right type of plastic for each job. Knowing how to change the properties of a plastic is helpful. Many items that we take for granted are made from plastics. The aim of the project was to allow pupils the opportunity to investigate polymers and provide hands-on, practical experimentation.

Science and engineering enrichment activity helps to motivate children and supports their learning and development - as well as being fun!
