Farm proposal deferred

AN application to build a house and detached double garage on a Glenarm farm has been deferred by planners this week.

The Planning Service had been minded to refuse the application by A McAllister for a site near 92 Feystown Road. But, at a meeting of the public services committee at Smiley Buildings on Monday, councillors called for an office meeting to be held on the issue.

Planners had intended to refuse the application on the grounds that the proposed building fails to blend with existing trees, slopes and other natural features. It was also claimed that the development would “result in a detrimental change to the rural character of the countryside”.

Planners further stated that the applicant had “failed to demonstrate that the proposed new building is visually linked or sited to cluster with an established group of buildings on the farm”.
