Farmer Nigel’s outstanding in his own field!

For Nigel Jamison literally dug deep to raise a whopping £11,000 for Marie Curie.

The idea for growing five acres of potatoes with the profits going to the Marie Curie cancer charity was sown last year and quickly took root.

And now Marie Curie Moyle & District Support group have received a cheque for the sum of £11,390 from Nigel Jamison, the proceeds from the ‘Field of Spuds’ fundraising event.

This time last year Nigel Jamison approached the local Marie Curie Support group with the idea of raising money by planting a Field of potatoes with the proceeds of the potato sales and donations going to the local group.

He, along with a vast number of helpers and sponsors, gave their time, money and services to grow five acres of potatoes in a field close to the Jamison Farm at Carnately Bridge.

The Maris Piper seed were planted in April 2010. Good weather along with plenty of due care and attention from the Jamison family resulted in a superb crop of potatoes being dug with their Dewulf harvester in the middle of November. All potatoes from the field where taken to ‘Mash Direct’ in haulage lorries just in time for Christmas trading.

No opportunities to raise money for this very worthy cause were missed with even the refuse produce from the field being sold at auction in Armoy Market.

The Jamison Family would like to take this opportunity to thank Mash Direct for supplying the seed and purchasing all the potatoes, along with the other generous sponsors and helpers who made this unique fundraiser possible.
