Farmers invited to have their say on CAP reform

MEMBERS of the local farming community are being invited to attend a public meeting in Templepatrick next week to discuss the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.

The meeting, being organised by MEP Diane Dodds, will be attended by Scottish MEP George Lyon - the man tasked with writing a key report for the European Agriculture Committee on the reform of CAP post 2013.

CAP reform is fundamental to the future of the farming industry in Northern Ireland, dictating how farmers will access money from the EU budget and how much money they will receive in direct payments.

Local farmers will have a unique opportunity to air their views at the meeting, which will be held on Monday (February 1) in the Templeton Hotel at 8pm.

“I believe it is vitally important that farmers make their voice heard on this issue because the reform of Common Agriculture Policy will have a direct impact on farmers’ incomes in the future.

“I would urge all farmers to use this meeting in the Templeton Hotel to express their views on the reform of CAP in order to get the best possible deal for farmers in the future,” Mrs Dodds said.
