Fashionable Feet! High School designers on show at Bishops

Pupils from Coleraine High School have been showing of their artistic flair by designing and making shoes, which are now on display at Bishops in Coleraine.

Shoppers to the town centre store can see the colourful, imaginative work by the creative year ten students on the first floor Ladies Department. Many have even been commenting that they would love to buy some of the shoes on display.

Art Teacher, Mrs Marion Knipe told The Times: “This all came about through a conversation with Mrs Hamilton from Bishops at prize day.

“She came to view the designs in the Art Department, and wanted them to be displayed in the store.

“The girls, who were year nine at the time, were really pleased with their designs, and so was I.”

Outlining how the pupils went about making their shoes, Mrs Knipe said: “The pupils began by researching unusual shoe designs. They then designed three of their own - before choosing one for their final three dimensional shoe.”

The designs, made out of real shoes, covered in cling film, cello tape and papier mache were then completed according to the pupil’s design.

Mr Tom Hamilton, a director of Bishop’s praised the pupils for their work, adding that this was the first time such a display had been done in the Diamond store.

“There is a lot of flair and imagination on display. The display is proof that our young people have a lot of skill. We are delighted with the designs, and customers have been commenting on them.”
