FAST AND FURIOUS

BOY racers are flirting with danger as they copy high-speed manoeuvres from a cult film.

The speed demons have posted a video on YouTube of their exploits in a Kitchen Hill car park.

Filmed late at night, the clip shows the car imitating manoeuvres from the Fast and Furious films, including a cornering move known as the Tokyo Drift, which they've rechristened the Lurgan Drift.

Chief Inspector Jason Murphy said he would take very robust action with regards incidents of this nature.

Mr Murphy said: "I have looked at this video although the lighting conditions do not make it possible to identify registration numbers, etc. I have tasked the local Neighbourhood team to watch it. They may be able to identify the vehicles or voices - they are in regular contact with 'boy racers'.

"We have received no complaints of this activity, but I have informed my local crews to pay attention to this car park."

A police spokesperson said: "The duty of the police is to safeguard the public as well as detect and apprehend anyone breaking the law. Where any wrongdoing is detected police will investigate.

"Police would remind the public of the obvious dangers of participating in extreme activities and the risk that such irresponsible and reckless behaviour, carried out in an uncontrolled environment, poses not only to themselves but potentially to other members of the community.

"While the PSNI cannot monitor all activity on the internet due to the enormity of its content, we will take appropriate action when we receive complaints of criminal offences committed within our jurisdiction."

Anyone with information about illegal or criminal activity should contact police in Lurgan on 0845 600 8000.
