Fatal collision

Police have now confirmed that a man aged 62 died this morning in a road traffic collision on the main arterial route to Londonderry from Omagh.

The man died following a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the Melmount Road between Sion Mills and Victoria Bridge this morning, Wednesday, January 8.

The collision involving a black coloured Suzuki Vitara jeep and a blue coloured Toyota Avensis occurred at approximately 10.50am. The deceased was a passenger in one of the vehicles. Two men, one aged in his 20’s and one aged in his 40’s and two women, one aged in her 20’s and one aged in her 50’s have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries which are described as serious. The Melmount Road remains closed at this time.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Melmount Road around the time of the collision to contact them at the Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station or Strabane Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
