The Garda sent out a statement which said: “One man, in his early 20s, was killed when the car he was a passenger in struck a wall.”

It added: “The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Cavan General where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

“The road at the scene is closed to facilitate an examination of the area by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.”

At least one other person – also thought to be from the Omagh area – was in the car at the time.

They were taken to hospital. Their condition is unknown at time of writing.
