Father and son '˜took a risk' to drive

A father and son from Aghadowey have been fined for driving offences connected to them getting a car to use for spare parts.

Robert Greer (51), and Tobin Hugh Greer (20), both of the same address at Knockaduff Road, had the matters detected at Ballybogey Road near Ballymoney in December last year when they were each driving separate Peugeot 106s.

A prosecutor told Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday, March 13 Robert Greer was driving a car purchased by the son earlier in the day and Tobin Greer was in the other.

A defence lawyer said they had gone to get a new car that day and Tobin Greer only had a provisional licence and was driving unaccompanied which meant he was not covered by insurance.

The lawyer said the car was bought for parts and they “took a risk” to drive.

The lawyer said Tobin Greer, an apprentice joiner, has failed the theory part of his driving test 10 times.

Robert Greer was given six penalty points and fined £250 for permitting no insurance and an MOT offence and Tobin Greer was given six penalty points and fined £350 for no insurance, no MOT, no L plates and driving unaccompanied.
