Faughan Valley plans lodged

A MAJOR development at the former Faughan Valley school site in Drumahoe moved closer to fruition with the submission of an application for residential units, a community hall, a children's play park and a football pitch.

The Sentinel recently reported how the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) was proposing a major mixed use development for the former school site.

Now an application has been lodged for a "mixed-use development to include semi-detached residential units, re-use of the former school building for apartments and community hall, multi-use games area (MUGA pitch), changing facilities, children's play area, car parking for adjacent Primary School and associated landscaping."

The Sentinel understands 78 dwellings - 33 two-storey semi-detached houses, 24 apartments and 21 residential units - form part of the outline application.

Equally, some land will be set aside for community facilities, but these will be largely "developer funded."

The Faughan Valley will complement a separate 50m development at the now derelict Desmond's site in the village that will include an ice rink, cinema, bowling alley, soccer dome, restaurants, retail units and a health care facility.
