Sinn Féin Councillor for Crumlin Anne Marie Logue said: “Local traders, residents and the rural community use the services provided by this branch. It is also a focal point bringing associated trade to the town.

“As strenuous efforts continue to enhance the town and its economic attractiveness there are concerns that this branch may close leaving Crumlin with no bank.

“Rural customers cannot be taken for granted.

“At the very least Ulster Bank should have consulted with those affected in this community.”

A spokesperson for the Ulster Bank said, “We have already announced and implemented a number of branch closures earlier this year including, 22 branches and sub-offices across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

“It is our intention to further streamline the traditional branch network whilst increasing the overall physical points of presence across the Island of Ireland, however the detail of this is yet to be worked through. As we progress this, we will communicate directly with our staff, customers and industry stakeholders.”
