February drier and colder than average

FEBRUARY was drier and colder than average, according to the Armagh Observatory.

The total precipitation for the month was 42.2 mm (1.66 inches), about one-quarter less than the average. Snow fell on seven days.

The number of hours of sunshine was 51.9, about 20% less than the monthly average.

The mean monthly temperature was 2.6 degrees Celsius (36.7 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s a chilly 2 degrees C colder than the long-term average since 1795.

The maximum temperature was 10.9 degrees C on the 5th, and the lowest air temperature was –5.7 C on 22nd. There were 25 nights with grass frost and 17 with air frost.
