Shea Reynolds (20), Drumlin Drive, Lurgan, was sentenced to six months in custody for assault occasioning actual bodily harm on October 13 last year.

For each of three assaults on police he was given concurrent three month terms.

The court heard that at 1.20am police went to a disturbance at Drumlin Drive where they found the defendant, bare-chested, standing outside his home.

He ran off but 20 minutes later he returned and police found him hiding in a rear yard.

Reynolds spat in the eye of an officer and kicked a female officer in the face. Her glasses came off and there was a bruise to her face. Another officer was head-butted.

A barrister representing the defendant said he was resigned to his fate.

He explained Reynolds had fallen out with his mother and consumed alcohol and illicit substances. He had no recollection and would apologise to the officers.

The solicitor said that in the cold light of day the defendant was an amiable young man but when he consumed alcohol and was in a bad mood his behaviour left a lot to be desired.

He added that since being incarcerated Reynolds had become an enhanced prisoner and had passed two drugs tests since Christmas.

The barrister said that hopefully the ‘penny had dropped’ as far as the defendant was concerned.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said the defendant’s behaviour was ‘quite reprehensible’.
