Festival of lights

THE Ballyronan Festival of Lights has become an annual event, growing bigger and better each year.

The spectacular illumination themed event is expected to draw large crowds of people from far and wide.

The Festival of Lights will be held at Ballyronan Marina on Friday, August 27, and has an impressive line up of activities throughout the evening.

It kicks of at 6pm with the Ballyronan Boat Club hosting taster sessions for windsurfing and sailing, aimed at beginners the sessions will give participants a flavour for these fantastic water based activities and leave them wanting more! To participate contact Connor 07725 162008

The Lough Neagh Rescue Raft Race will begin at 7pm; the race is open to all businesses, schools, community, sporting groups etc and is the perfect opportunity to do some team building whilst raising money for your local charity.

Each team will consist of 4-6 people and will bring along their own homemade raft! All entries must be able to swim and be in good health. For entry details log onto www.cookstown.gov.uk/events Contact Connor 077725 162008

A sizzling BBQ will be served at the festival between 8pm-10pm; you simply won’t be able to resist the aroma at just 5 per ticket, proceeds in aid of Lough Neagh Rescue.

The Lough Neagh Rescue crew will certainly earn their supper; they will be performing an impressive rescue display which spectators can view from the shoreline at 8.30pm.

A spectacular fireworks display and bonfire will light up the waters of Lough Neagh at Ballyronan from 9.30pm, it will be an impressive display guaranteed to entertain the family!

The highlight of the evening is sure to be the Illuminated Boat Parade, boats from all over Lough Neagh will don their vessels with lights and parade around the bay. This spectacular display will light up the marina at 10pm.

The evening will then come alive with a disco, music provided by SR entertainment, and will have everyone dancing to the beat, the outdoor disco and bar service will go on into the early hours.

There will be boat trips on the Maid of Antrim around Toome Bay departing throughout the evening from Ballyronan Marina, booking not required, Adults 6, children 5.

There will also be children entertainment throughout the evening with a magician, train rides, and much, much more.

The festival organisers would like to thank Cookstown District Council for awarding a grant to the Ballyronan Festival of Lights from their Community Festival Fund.
