Festive CD from pupils

Following on from their success in reaching the finals of the Co-operation Ireland School Choir of the Year, Foyle View School Choir have released a CD of festive carols.

The eight-track CD, recorded at the Blast Furnace Studio, contains Christmas favourites, such as ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘The Angel Gabriel’, as well as more modern songs like ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Please Remember’. There are some outstanding solo performances as well as full choir collaborations. The school’s rock band, ‘The Plantin’, who are waiting to hear if they have reached the televised auditions of Britain’s Got Talent, will also perform that night.

Music plays a vital and integral role in Foyle View School. Pupils at the school develop many skills through the medium of music and the staff, students, parents and community have witnessed many achievements. In the past two years the love of music has grown extensively and the talent of many of our students has been developed and showcased in a series of concerts, shows and public performances. The choir has grown from 10 students to 47 over the past 18 months, leading to two choirs which perform on a weekly basis. The students also take a lead role in choosing songs to work on and perform.

Comenting on the success of the school choir, Denise White, music co-ordinator, said:“The choirs are dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic singers. There is at no time any focus on disability but a real emphasis on ability, achievement and talent. Students develop many skills through their work in music. Aural awareness, social interaction, confidence and communication skills are all enhanced. The choirs thoroughly enjoy performing in front of a range of audiences which is vital in showcasing the talents and achievements of our students.”

Principal, Dr Michael Dobbins, said:“I am delighted to see the hard work of the Choir recognized in this recording. Denise White has worked hard to have the talents of our children and young people recognized and the CD will make a terrific Christmas present.”

The CD goes on sale tomorrow, Thursday, December 8, priced at £6, and is available from the school.
