Festive fund-raiser is to light up Millbrook

LARNE woman Avril Graham will be lighting up Millbrook with a dazzling festive fund-raiser during December.

The Christmas lights switch-on will take place at her Drumahoe Gardens home on Saturday evening and will shine brightly until New Year’s Day.

The charity event will take place in aid of Roddensvale School.

Avril says that her home has become known as the “Christmas house at the roundabout”.

She has been decorating the exterior of the house with lights to raise money for charities for the past three years, raising more than £600, despite a “sky-high” electricity bill.

The charities have included the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and Breast Cancer Awareness.

This year’s preparations by her husband Alan have been ongoing for the past three weeks.

Avril, a bus driver for Roddensvale School, says that a donation box will be place outside the property for contributions.

“Previously, we just decorated the house with lights for a bit of fun but then someone suggested why not do it for charity”, she added.

“I know that money is tight, so it is up to people themselves how much they would like to donate. All donations will go to Roddensvale School.”

Donations can can also be made on any of the Roddensvale buses or at the school office.
