Field Day returns underStephen Rea

THE legendary Field Day Theatre Company returns to the city this week with two new plays directed by Stephen Rea.

Originally established in Londonderry in 1980 by Stephen Rea and Brian Friel, Field Day Theatre Company, under the direction of Stephen Rea, will bring their productions of Farewell and Half a Glass of Water to a newly renovated Playhouse Theatre on Artillery Street until December 8.

The Playhouse was awarded £73,550 under the City of Culture Capital Fund. The theatre and arts centre has made a number of structural changes to the theatre and offices and the funding has also enabled it to purchase audio/visual equipment, a van and signage to extend its current programming offer to a larger audience.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said: “I am pleased that my department has been able to provide financial support for this worthwhile project.

“This investment in the Playhouse further enhances the services on offer and allows for increased programming and audience numbers during the UK City of Culture 2013 year and beyond”.

Ilex’s Cultural Broker Caoimhin Corrigan said: “The revamp of the Playhouse, including the installation of new equipment, enables the theatre to provide an enriched, more accessible experience for larger audiences, which will help to draw more people through the doors of The Playhouse.

“The funding will help this dynamic, vibrant organisation to expand their already exciting and innovative programme of events for 2013 and for many years thereafter”.
