Filling Stations plan faces ‘refusal’ in Ballycastle

PLANNERS are of the opinion to refuse permission for a replacement garage and shop at Hillhead in Ballycastle.

Briege McAlonan has applied to ‘demolish existing garage, shop and store and erect new portal framed, clad and facaded building to rear of site incorporating garage, store, shop and two retail units with all associated parking’ at 58a and 60 Coleraine Road.

Planners said the ‘proposal is contrary to the Department’s Planning Policy Statement 5, Retailing and Town Centres, in that no information has been provided to justify the two additional retail units on this out of town centre location’.

And planners said insufficient information was provided in order for the Department, Roads Service and Moyle Environmental Health Department to fully determine the application.

A planning official told a meeting of Moyle Council one retail unit would be suitable on the site.

Council Chairperson, Cllr Paudie McShane, asked for the case to be deferred for a month to allow additional information to be brought forward.
