Final call for stories about Rathcoole

RATHCOOLE Creative Memories Association is making a final call to those who wish to submit a story to its 'Creative Memories Book'.

“The Association has been working for a year and already has taken receipt of 20 stories,” said chair of Rathcoole Creative Memories, May McCune.

“Some are about characters in the past that lived on the estate, personal journals of life, dramatic events, work, marriages and relationships.

“The book is being organised around five themes: Living in Rathcoole - including stories about what it’s like to live in this unique estate, it’s early days and more recent days; Used to live in Rathcoole - stories about people who moved away and sharing their experiences; Community organisations - stories about initiatives, events, work, groups and people; Young people - what it’s like as a young person to grow up in one of the largest estates in Europe, achievements, hopes and fears; and People with longtime service in Rathcoole - professionals, clergy and traders.”

May said that most importantly, the group wanted ordinary people to share their everyday stories.

“Remember, the Association would like to receive even the idea of a story, a rough draft, or even a completed story,” said May.

“Members will then work with you to prepare it for publication. So there is no excuse.”
