Final meeting of Planning Commmittee

Ulster Unionist councillor William King has paid tribute to the members of Coleraine Borough Council’s Planning Committee.

Speaking last Tuesday night, as he took charge of the last ever meeting, the committee chairman thanked the members and staff for their support.

“It is sad to think that we are loosing members,” said councillor King.

“Deputy Mayor, Yvonne Boyle, councillor Archibald, councillor Sugden, councillor Alexander, councillor Barbour, councillor Craig, Alderman Fielding and Alderman Creelman.

“Planning is not everyone’s cup of tea,” said the UUP man, “ but I want to commend the members of this committee for their attendance, you have been very loyal,” he said.

He went on to thank Democratic Services Manager Bernadette McGuinness and Sylvia Browne from the Chief Executives’s Department.

Independent councillor Christine Alexander presented the pair with small gifts on behalf of members.

Thanking the members, Ms McGuinness said that she had enjoyed her work with the committee, describing it as ‘interesting’.

She added that she was ‘sorry’ it was coming to an end.

Senior Planning Officer, Shane Matthews also spoke as the meeting concluded.

He said: “On behalf of the Department I would like to thank Coleraine Borough Council for the constructive relations with the Department over forty odds years.“
