Final school days for retiring principals

ELEVEN principals of schools in the North Eastern Education and Library Board's area with between them 176 years' experience as heads step down from their posts this year.

Six of the group have chalked up a lengthy total stint of 123 years in primary schools while the remaining five have amassed 53 years leading their post-primary establishments.

The ‘Principals XI’ were hosted at a retirement lunch by the North Eastern Board’s Chairman Rev Selwoode Graham and new Chief Executive Shane McCurdy in the Leighinmohr Hotel, Ballymena.

Both men thanked the school heads for their sterling work over the years in the key roles they had played in the local education service.

David Millar was principal of Carnalridge Primary School, Portrush, for 30 years.

In the post-primary sector, Bill Harpur was principal of Ballycastle High for the last 12 years.
