Fine after manoeuvre leads to accident

A PORTSTEWART man has been fined £150 and handed three penalty points after a manoeuvre he performed lead to a collision between two cars.

North Antrim Magistrates' Court heard that police were called to road traffic accident on the Coleraine Road, Portstewart. Officers said that the cars had not been moved and that there was no visible tyre tracks on the road.

Witnesses told the officers that the defendant, Martin Patrick Kieran McKay (31) of Cromore Drive, attempted to perform a u-turn on the road and he collided with the other car.

Under interview McKay denied careless driving as he said he felt he had plenty of time to complete the manoeuvre.

District Judge Richard Wilson upheld the charge of driving without due care and attention.
