Fine and points for Portstewart student

A PORTSTEWART student who allowed her friend drive her car without insurance has been fined.

Emma McDermott (21) of Old MIll Grange, appeared before District Judge Richard Wilson, last Wednesday.

Court heard that a police patrol stopped McDermott in her Peugeot car near her home.

McDermott was the front seat passenger of the car. Her friend had offered to drive her home from a party after she had taken a few drinks.

However, he did not have insurance for her vehicle or a driving licence.

A defence solicitor told the court that it was a ‘genuine mistake’.

District Judge Richard Wilson fined McDermott 130 and gave her six penalty points.
