Fined for assault on his wife

A Lurgan man was fined £120 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for assaulting his wife.

He was 23-year-old Daniel Somers, Mourne Road, and he admitted the offence which happened on June 14 last year.

The court heard that at 2.35am at Mourne Road police spoke to the injured party who said her husband placed his hands around her throat on two occasions.

Somers accepted he had grabbed her by the collar but denied around the throat. He said an argument had taken place. He had been trying to sleep and she was listening to music on headphones and singing along. Sentence in the case had been deferred for six months.

A defence solicitor said he was still married to the injured party..
