Fined for disorderly behaviour

A 24-year-old Scottish man who formerly lived in Banbridge has been charged with disorderly behaviour.

Mark Albert Jamieson, who lived at Maryville Crescent, Banbridge for a time, now lives back in his native Aberdeen, his solicitor told the local Magistrates Court last Thursday.

The solicitor said his client who is unemployed cannot afford the cost of coming over to Northern Ireland to face the charge in person.

The court heard how police were called to a disturbance at Maryville Crescent after receiving a report that Jamieson had entered a house shouting, swearing and acting in an aggressive manner.

When police arrived they could hear the shouting from outside the house and warned Jamieson about his behaviour telling him a number of persons would be in bed asleep.

Officers detected a smell of alcohol and after continuing to shout, Jamieson was arrested.

His solicitor explained how Jamieson is originally from Aberdeen and had met his girlfriend in Scotland before locating to Banbridge last May.

"There was an argument between him and his former girlfriend and she called the police. He was asked to leave but said he didn't want to as he wanted to say goodbye to his son.

"He has just recently signed on and is getting benefits and there are no plans to return to Northern Ireland in the short term."

Jamieson was fined 150 and was given 16 weeks to pay the fine.
