Fined for illegal flashing car lights

Constantin-Alin Fechete, Alexandra Gardens, Portadown, admitted being in contravention of lighting regulations by fitting to a vehicle a blue warning beacon or lamp.

He was also fined £250 and banned from driving for two months for not having insurance, fined £50 for not displaying ‘L’ plates, fined £100 for driving unsupervised and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on September 9 this year police saw a vehicle with blue flashing lights on its grille travelling in Bridge Street, Portadown.

They thought it was a police vehicle but it wasn’t and they stopped the car which was being driven by Fechete.

He was arrested for impersonating a police officer but this charge was not proceeded with.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had no previous convictions and no points on his licence.

He explained that his client held a provisional licence and had insurance but was not covered on this occasion because he was not accompanied by a qualified driver.

The solicitor said that Fechete had put the lights on the car for an aesthetic purposeand had been told by the shop owner where he bought them they were legal.

He added that the defendant did not have access to any vehicle at this time.
