Fined for possession of cannabis for own use

A Lurgan man was fined £150 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for possession of cannabis.

Twenty-one-year-old Blaine McDonald, Mark Street, Lurgan, was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 11pm on October 10 police stopped a car containing three male occupants outside Lurgan police station.

There was a strong smell of cannabis in the car and the defendant removed something from his clothing which he said was a ‘bit of blow’.

There were two clear bags which he said he had bought for £20 for his own personal use.

A solicitor, on behalf of another solicitor, asked the court if the case could be adjourned into Friday’s court but District Judge, Mr John Meehan, went ahead with the matter.
