Fined for using mobile phone while driving

A BALLYMENA woman has been fined for using her mobile phone while driving.

Michelle Thomas (30), of Ballybollen Lane, Ahoghill, was also charged with having no insurance and failing to produce insurance on October 22 of last year.

Antrim Magistrates court was told that the Thomas had been a named driver on her sisters policy for the car and when the car was transferred into her name believed the insurance covered her.

A defence solicitor told the court that 25 minutes after she had been stopped by police, Thomas had arranged insurance for the car.

District Judge Robert Alcorn imposed a fine of 350 for using the mobile phone. For having no insurance, Thomas received six penalty points and the Court ordered an Absolute Discharge.
