Fined for using mobile while driving

A fine of £150 was imposed on a 34-year-old man last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for using a mobile phone while driving on January 29 this year.

Gary McGrath, Old Fort Lodge, Craigavon, also received three points and was fined £90 for failing to wear a seat belt.

The court heard that at 11.55am he was seen using a phone while driving a van on the Portadown Road, Lurgan. As a constable approached McGrath continued to talk on the phone. It was noticed he was not wearing a seat belt.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, defending, said McGrath had been a self-employed window fitter, but, during a period of disqualification he had been on benefits. The ban had ended and he intended to get back to work as a window fitter.
