Fined £200 and six penalty points

A 23-year-old Ballymoney motorist has been fined £200 and given six penalty points at North Antrim Magistrates Court last Wednesday on a summons for driving without insurance.

Sarah Hodges, of 24 Ashlea Drive, was said by a prosecuting solicitor to have been stopped driving a Jeep Cherokee on June 23, 2009, at Coleraine Road, Portstewart.

According to the solicitor, defendant was unable to prove that she was insured.

A solicitor for Hodges said his client had been driving her boyfriend’s vehicle and that she was under the impression she was insured under her mother’s policy which was fully comprehensive and on which she was named.

Defendant, he said, was in slow labour at the time and was on her way to visit the midwife, but it was not an emergency trip.

The solicitor stressed that his client was now properly insured.
