Fire at waste depot

THE Mobuoy Road on the outskirts of Londonderry was closed to traffic for a while yesterday, due to a fire at a waste recycling site.

The fire was discovered shortly before 6am, a PSNI spokesman said: this is the second major fire at the site, the previous incident having taken place in March.

It is understood around 500 tonnes of material was ablaze and at one stage fire officers encouraged homeowners in the area to close their windows for their own comfort.
