Fire crews called to deliberate blazes in Coalisland

Firefighters have been called out to two separate reports of deliberate blazes in the Coalisland area within a four hour period.

Appliances were tasked from Dungannon and Cookstown fire stations to the calls on Thursday night.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) told the TIMES that at around 7.41pm, personnel responded to a call of rubbish on fire at Lineside in the town.

The NIFRS spokeswoman said the blaze was the result of “deliberate ignition”.

Then, just after 10pm, NIFRS received a call regarding tyres on fire at Maplebrook Way in the town.

That incident is also being treated as deliberate.

Police, in conjunction with NIFRS, are working in the run-up to Hallowe’en to ensure communities celebrate safely.

Alan Walmsley, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, said: “Firefighters are not out to spoil anyone’s fun and are there to protect life, protect property and work tirelessly to keep you and your community safe.”
