Firefighters cut man and woman in 80s from car after RTC with lorry near Swatragh

Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 40-year-old male lorry driver was out of his vehicle when emergency services arrived, and was assessed on site.

Fire crews from Maghera and Magherafelt were deployed to the scene of the crash on Moneysharvan Road shortly before 3pm.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received a call at 2.37pm to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Moneysharvan Road, Swatragh area of Maghera this afternoon (Wednesday 18th November).

“One Fire Appliance from Maghera Fire Station and one Fire Appliance from Magherafelt Fire Station were deployed to the scene. Firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment extricated a male and female, both in their 80’s from a car.

“Both were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries. Another male believed to be the driver of a van involved in the incident was out of the vehicle upon arrival of Firefighters.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at 3.22pm.”
