Firm in court following death of Dervock man

A LOCAL construction company has been charged over the death of Dervock labourer Colin Glass.

Drumdollagh Construction with an address at Carrowcrin Road, Armoy, Ballymoney, face a total of seven charges following the 2008 tragedy.

They allege corporate manslaughter, failure to ensure safety, failing to comply with construction regulations, failing to prevent a vehicle falling, failing to maintain work equipment and two counts of failing to ensure adequate training.

The case was adjourned until next month when it came up at North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine on Friday.

Mr Glass (pictured right) died in an incident involving a dumper trucker at a site on the Priestland Road, Bushmills on 9 May 2008.

Speaking to the Times in the aftermath of the tragedy, Mr Glass's brother-in-law described the 53-year-old grandfather as "a quiet and religious man".

Jackie Morrison, said: "He was a quiet and religious man who was devoted to his family.

"He was a skilled labourer and could turn his hand to anything."

Mr Glass - who was survived by wife Doreen, daughter Trina and step-daughter Trudy - was a huge Joey Dunlop fan and travelled regularly to road racing events throughout the Province.
