First Annual Inspection of Ulster Special Constabulary

The packed bill of events is planned for the special event which starts at 7.30pm.

The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of a report on the Battle of Aughrim.

The document is one of only two copies on the key battle.

The report was compiled just four days after the battle and Ballymoney Museum will take ownership of the copy.

The other is in the hands of the Ulster Museum.

At Friday’s event in Ballymoney Town Hall there will be an inspection and review carried out by the Mayor and President followed by an exchange and presidents.

A roll of honour will then be called followed by a talk on the history of the Ulster Special Constabulary and its Benevolent Fund.

A drill and patrol demonstration will be carried out by West Tyrone USCA.

There will also be old style entertainment as there would have been at a ‘Specials Social Event’.

Refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome to attend for this unique evening.

Chairman of the North Antrim USCA Gardiner Kane said it was a fantastic opportunity for local people to learn about the force which had its roots firmly embedded in the area.

Oliver Gibson of the USCA added: “This is the first event of its kind and will provide something different for local people to enjoy.

“The Battle of Aughrim was the defining battle of what was really a European battle fought in Ireland.

“To have this report is very special.

“It will be on display in Ballymoney, bringing it to a whole new generation.”
