First ever youth film festival comes to Londonderry

YOUNG filmakers from the North West have an opportunity to showcase their week at the end of the month.

The first dedicated youth film festival ever to take place in Londonderry will be held in the Nerve Centre and the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny. This year’s May Bank Holiday weekend sees the North West Youth Film Festival (NWYFF) launched as a joint venture of both the Nerve Centre and the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny.

The NWYFF provides a platform for young filmmakers to showcase their work. A range of international youth screenings and their own choice of feature films as selected by young people from both areas will be screened as well.

Young filmmakers from all over the North West will be screening their work alongside some of the best international youth films made in the last year. The festival will also include a range of films from Moving Image Arts students, specially commissioned local filmmakers and the 1st Light projects.

The festival boasts a range of educational screenings as well as a selection of feature films. The Nerve Centre Youth panel have chosen some classic youth and teen films from the ‘80s, ‘90s and ‘00s, starting with the ‘80s classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.

All this will be available for nothing, all screenings are free of charge.

The North West Youth Film Festival is supported by the Peace III Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by Donegal County Council and is a broadcasting partner of the ReelYouth film festival in Canada.
