First Lisburn welcomes Welsh choir for special concert

The concert will see performances from two world class make voice choirs - Cwmbach Male Voice Choir from Wales and Queen’s Island Victoria Male Voice Choir from Belfast.

There will also be a host of special guests, including flautist Richard Douglas, organist Tom Whyte and pianist Michael Harrison.

The Cwmbach Choir was formed in 1921, and has survived to the present day even though it was severely tested by periods of hardship, depression and the Second World War.

During it’s 90 years it has flourished and built up an enviable record of success in competitions and concert performances.

The musical repertoire of the Choir is wide and varied. It includes music for all tastes, ranging from operatic choruses, spirituals, hymns, folk music and popular ballads.

The Queen’s Island Victoria Male Choir was formed in 1974 when the two oldest choirs in the province amalgamated.

The Queen’s Island Choir had been formed in 1912 and the Victoria choir in 1916, both originating in the Harland & Wolff Shipyard in Belfast.

The Choir is now established as one of the foremost in the province and it devotes much of its time and energy to charity Concerts and church services.

The concert will raise money for First Lisburn’s 325 Project, as well as other charities. Suggested donation is £10, which is payable at the door.
