LURGAN College travelled to Antrim on Saturday and were defeated in a keenly contested game.

The College boys actually started the brighter and quick thinking from scrum-half Chris Calvert allowed Josh McKay to kick a drop goal to push the team in front.

A sustained attack from Antrim, who worked the ball through a number of phases, eventually resulted in a try under the posts and within minutes they scored a carbon copy which was also converted.

The College then lost Chris Calvert, Stephen Buckley and Adam Carson to injury in quick succession and this disrupted hopes of a comeback.

However, Chris Clague did manage to score, showing blistering pace as he raced away from the halfway line, and at half time the match was evenly tied at 14-10.

The second half was a slightly one-sided affair as Antrim moved through the gears and scored twice more in the corner as an eye injury to flying winger Dawid Stanzack left the College a man down.

Best on a disappointing day for the College were Andrew Wilson and Chris Clague.

LURGAN Town Under 16s suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 1-0 to Loughgall at Moira.

In a poor performance by Town they lost out to a team who worked harder and were hungrier for the victory.

The winning goal came midway through the first half when Lurgan lost possession on their right and from the resulting cross the forward had a tap-in to give Loughgall the lead. Poor defending from Town who should have dealt easily with the cross. Lurgan failed to create any clear chances in the first half and deservedly went in 1-0 down at half time.

The second half followed the same pattern with Lurgan unable to match or cope with Loughgall's workrate. Town created a couple of half chances in the second half with a David Kennedy shot well saved by the keeper and an Adam Harrison header going just the wrong side of the post.

With Lurgan pushing for the equaliser keeper Peter Stewart was called on to make a great save to keep the score at one. Despite a frantic last 10 minutes Town could not find the goal to level the scores and Loughgall deservedly took the three points.

Town must learn to work harder in their upcoming games if they are to have any chance of pushing to the top of the league. Best for Lurgan was Adam Harrison.
