First Mid & East Antrim ‘Mayor’ elected
DUP Councillor Billy Ashe is the inaugural ‘First Citizen’ of Mid & East Antrim District Council and TUV Councillor Timothy Gaston his Deputy.
They were elected tonight (Tuesday) to the top positions at the annual general meeting of the 40-member ‘Super Council’ for Ballymena, Larne and Carrickfergus.
Its 10-month ‘shadow’ period ends next week with the creation of the new Mid & East Antrim District on April 1 from when it will begin delivering services to citizens.
At the annual meeting in the Braid members not only nominated the top councillor positions but also the Chairs and Deputy Chairs of a number of committees.
