Fishing duo were rescued from rocks as tide cut them off at Portbradden

On Saturday evening, Coastguards from Ballycastle Coastal rescue Team were called on to rescue a father and son who were cut off on a rock at Portbradden.

The pair has been fishing from a rock at the picturesque coastal location when the tide came in and cut them off from the shore.

The alarm was raised by onlookers and Ballycastle Coastguard and Portrush All Weather Lifeboat were called to give assistance.

The pair were sucessfully rescued and brought ashore by the Coastguard team as Portrush Lifeboat stood by to provide safety cover.

A spokesman for the Coastguard advised: “Be careful of tides. it’s easy to become cut off and strong wind conditions will mean that the sea will reach higher levels than expected. What should be an enjoyable experience could so easily take a traumatic turn, so listen to warnings and stay a safe distance from water.”
