Five calves rescued from fire in shed

Five calves were rescued from a hayshed following a fire, in the Stoneyford area last Tuesday night at around 8.15pm.

The initial appliances attending the hayshed fire on the Ballypitmave Road at Stoneyford outside Lisburn requested extra resources to assist in dealing with what was a substantial blaze.

Resources from Lisburn were joined by colleagues from Crumlin.

A Water Tanker was also brought from Pomeroy to help fight the fire.

The building, which was measuring 20×5 metres required a main jet, a hosereel jet and a foam jet with a water shuttle was used to deal with the incident.

Crews worked to prevent fire spreading to an adjacent ‘lean-to’ and rescued the cattle from the building.
